The powerful true story of a SEAL Team Operator and the military working dog (MWD) that saved his life, No Ordinary Dog is a page-turner.

Most of us know exactly where we were on September 11, 2001, when terrorists crashed two commercial jets into the World Trade Center in New York City, another into the Pentagon, and one into a field in Pennsylvania. All told, nearly 3,000 people were killed that day.

Ten years later, two dozen Navy SEALs descended on the compound housing Osama Bin Laden—the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. After that mission, only one team-member name was made public: Cairo, a military working dog. This is his story, and that of Will Chesney, his handler and a SEAL Team Operator whose life would be irrevocably tied to Cairo’s in ways he never anticipated.

As the daughter of an officer in the U.S. Navy, I have a special place in my heart for the men and women who serve our country*. The fact that our military works with and depends upon MWDs is something that, once again, highlights the amazing roles dogs play in our lives.

Without giving away any more of the story, I’ll simply say I highly recommend this book. It’s a well-written, gripping account of an important event in recent American history, as well as a view into the making of a Navy SEAL and a military working dog.
